Frank Ocean's birth chart

Frank Ocean drops an album every ten years, barely gives interviews, and still every appearance becomes an event. His birth time comes from a birth certificate, and honestly, his chart couldn't be more Frank.

Five points in Scorpio in the 1st house: mystery in human form

Scorpio rising, with the Sun, Mercury, Venus and Pluto in the same sign, in the 1st house. It's one of the most Scorpio charts you can imagine. Scorpio guards its private life like a treasure, shows only what it chooses to show, and fascinates precisely because it hides. Mercury retrograde here is rare, thoughtful speech that comes from far away. Every word counts because he doesn't say many.

Venus in Scorpio: love as truth

Venus in Scorpio in the 1st house is total, deep love and an intimate truth fully owned. In 2012, just before Channel Orange came out, he published a letter about his first love, a man. A huge move in the R&B and hip-hop world of that time. Scorpio does nothing on the surface.

Capricorn Moon in the 3rd house: controlled emotion

His Moon is in Capricorn, with Neptune, in the 3rd house of words and writing. His emotions are contained, modest, and come through lyrics cut like poetry. Neptune adds the dreamy, blurry quality we hear in Blonde.

Saturn and Uranus in Sagittarius in the 2nd house: independence first

In the 2nd house of money and resources, Saturn and Uranus speak of fierce independence. Frank fulfilled his label contract with one album, then released Blonde independently the very next day. Nobody controls his work but him.

Mars in Libra in the 12th house: acting from the shadows

Mars in the 12th house is energy that works in the shadows, far from view. He disappears, works alone, then comes back. His absences are part of his art.

The bottom line

A Scorpio to the fifth power who only opens up through his music, a modest Capricorn heart and a freedom that's non-negotiable.
